leak reported at Viva Energy refinery

Bay939 reported that emergency crews have been called to an incident at Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery.

Seven CFA vehicles attended the Refinery Road property in Corio on Wednesday afternoon.

A Viva Energy spokesperson has confirmed in a statement to Geelong Broadcasters a small hydrogen leak was detected at the refinery at 3.30pm, resulting in a minor alarm being sounded.

“In response, the unit is being shut down. Emergency services attended the site as per standard minor alarm protocol,” they said.

No injuries have been associated with the leak, and the CFA says the incident was under control at 4.19pm.

The leak has been fully isolated and the all clear was sounded at 4.55pm.

WorkSafe has also been contacted for comment.
